UK – 11 November

Strikes in Italy are impacting the rail network, with delays and cancellations expected. Our team will advise any customers affected by this situation.                                                      

Italy – Industrial action announced for 12 November – 11 November

Further strikes have been announced for 12 November, which will impact transportation. The affected customers will be updated and advised.

Spain – 11 November

Spain has been hit by torrential rain and hailstorms, triggering flooding across multiple regions. Travel and logistics to, specifically, the Valencia region have been impacted severely, with major damages inflicted on the region’s infrastructure. Rail and road services to and from Valencia are suspended until further notice. We have also received news that Cadiz is now affected. There are also delays on the rail Barcelona/Madrid, while congestion in Rotterdam is causing vessels to divert. Customers will be kept updated.                          

Australia and New Zealand – 11 November

Singapore is still congested. Shipping lines are now choosing not to tranship in Singapore, reducing the impact on our containers. We will advise customers in case of any further changes.                       

South Africa – 11 November

South African terminal performance remains challenging.  Equipment downtime – quay and yard – is the leading cause, reducing productivity and driving port congestion.

Durban Container Terminal is the main bottleneck, with waiting times of 7 to 13 days. Gate appointments are highly constrained. Combined with occasional bad weather, Cape Town port is very congested. Affected customers will be kept updated.                                           

South America – 11 November

The situation at the border between Chile and Argentina is improving, with fewer delays in orders as their winter ends. However, there is a lack of equipment and space available out of San Antonio and Buenos Aires, and affected customers will be notified. Additionally, there is a shortage of 20ft containers in Uruguay, but the situation is not as severe compared to Chile and Argentina. Customers will be kept updated on any developments.

Italy – Rail strike announced on 8 November – 6 November

A new strike was announced in Italy on Friday, 8 November, for 12 hours, from midnight until 12:00 p.m. There is expected a moderate impact with some train cancellations. However, replacement trains were already rescheduled during the weekend to mitigate the effects. Our team is monitoring the situation.

Spain – 4 November

South Africa – 4 November

South African terminal performance remains challenging. Equipment downtime, quay and yard, is the leading cause, reducing productivity and driving port congestion.

Durban Container Terminal is the major terminal bottleneck, with vessels waiting anywhere from 7 to 13 days. Gate appointments remain highly restricted, exacerbating the situation. Meanwhile, Cape Town’s port is experiencing considerable congestion, compounded by sporadic adverse weather conditions. Affected customers will receive regular updates on the situation.

South America – 4 November

Border delays between Chile and Argentina are beginning to ease with the approach of the end of winter. However, a shortage of equipment and space out of San Antonio and Buenos Aires affects operations and impacted customers will be notified accordingly. Uruguay also has a shortage of 20-foot containers, though the situation is not as critical as in Chile and Argentina. Customers can expect to receive ongoing updates on these developments.

Lebanon – 4 November

Due to the current situation in Lebanon, inland transportation is difficult to secure. Any customers affected will be advised.                 

 

October 2024

Spain – Valencia transport services suspended due to severe flooding – 30 October

Spain has experienced heavy rain and hailstorms, which have caused flooding across several regions. Some rail and road services to and from Valencia are suspended until further notice, but other lines are still operating. Our team will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

UK – 28 October

A strike announced in Lombardy, Italy, could affect train departures. Affected customers will be notified.
 

Italy – 28 October

Planned strike action was announced for 28 October from 16:00 to 23:59. Potential affected customers will be advised.
 

Spain and Portugal – 28 October

Adverse weather in the Bay of Biscay disrupts operations in Spain and Portugal. The Barcelona/Madrid rail line is delayed, and congestion in Rotterdam is causing vessels to divert.
 

Australia and New Zealand – 28 October

South America – 28 October

The situation at the border between Chile and Argentina is improving as the winter is coming to an end. However, there is a lack of equipment/space outside San Antonio and Buenos Aires. Also, there is a 20ft of equipment shortage in Uruguay, but it is less severe compared to Chile/Argentina. Customers impacted will be advised. 

 
Spain – The strike has been called off – 25 October

Spain’s truck drivers have cancelled a planned series of strikes set to begin Monday, 28 October. As a result, operations will continue as usual.

Spain – Road transport strike planned for 28 October in Spain – 24 October

A strike by unions representing road transport workers in Spain is planned for Monday, 28 October. The industrial action is expected to disrupt road haulage. Other dates are considered to follow in November and might escalate to another action in December. Rest assured, our team will update you on any new developments and advise possible impacted customers.

UK – 23 October

Congestion at the Port of Tilbury is causing vessel docking and discharge delays. Our team will advice any affected customers.

Italy – 21 October

Train cancellations are causing congestion in the rail terminals, and as a result, some orders may be slightly delayed. Customers affected will be kept updated.                                     

Spain – 21 October

Adverse weather in the Bay of Biscay is causing disruptions for Spain and Portugal. There are delays on the rail Barcelona/Madrid. Due to the congestion at the Port of Tilbury, vessels cannot dock and discharge, causing delays. Customers affected will be kept updated.

The Chile / Argentina border delays are improving as winter is coming to an end. However, there is a lack of equipment/space in San Antonio and Buenos Aires. Uruguay also has a shortage of 20-foot equipment, but it is not as severe as in Chile / Argentina. Customers impacted will be advised.                                       

Lebanon – 21 October

Due to the current situation in Lebanon, we are facing issues with inland transportation. We are awaiting further updates.          

Italy – 14 October

High winds have affected all UK services. However, the situation is expected to improve. Pilot stations in London and Humber remain closed until further notice, which will impact vessels at the terminals. 
Also, the national strike that occurred in Italy over the weekend resulted in some delays. Our team will keep you updated and advise any affected customers.
 

Spain and Portugal – 14 October

Adverse weather in the Bay of Biscay is causing disruptions in Spain and Portugal. Customers affected will be kept updated.
 

Austria – 14 October

There are major rail network delays in Austria due to bad weather and flooding. Our team is working hard to find alternative solutions and will keep customers informed.
 

Germany – 14 October

As Germany announced stricter border controls that started already on 16 September for the next six months, this decision may disrupt trade in the coming months.  
 

Australia and New Zealand – 14 October

Singapore Port congestion is causing delays to orders.  Any customers affected will be advised.
 

South Africa – 14 October

The delays at the international border between Chile and Argentina are improving as the winter is ending. However, more equipment/space needs to be moved out of San Antonio and Buenos Aires. Uruguay also has a shortage of 20-foot equipment, but it is not as severe as in Chile/Argentina. Customers impacted will be advised.
 

Lebanon – 14 October

Due to the current situation in Lebanon, there are issues with inland transportation. Our team will keep customers updated.
 

Italy – National strike scheduled for 12 October announced – 9 October

A national strike has been announced in Italy for 12 October from 21:00 to 13 October at the same hour. The industrial action could result in possible delays and train cancellations. Our team will monitor the situation and keep the customers informed.

Due to high winds, all UK services have been affected. However, things are meant to improve. Pilot stations in London and Humber remain closed until further notice, which will impact vessels at the terminals. Our team will keep updated.

South Africa – 7 October

South African port performance continues to pose significant challenges. The primary issues revolved around equipment downtime at the quay and yard, resulting in decreased productivity and heightened port congestion. The Durban Container Terminal is particularly affected, with waiting times ranging from 7 to 13 days, while gate appointments face severe limitations. Furthermore, Cape Town port experiences frequent congestion, aggravated by occasional adverse weather conditions. Affected customers will be advised.

USA – 7 October

The US ports on the East and Gulf Coasts, which had shut down operations on 1 October, suspended the strike on 4 October and operations resumed. Our team is constantly monitoring the situation. We’ll advise on the impact that last week’s closures have caused. 

South America – 7 October

The border between Chile and Argentina is experiencing more closures and delays. Also, there is a lack of equipment/space out of San Antonio and Buenos Aires – Customers impacted will be advised.

There is also a shortage of 20ft of equipment in Uruguay, but it is not as severe as in Chile/Argentina. Customers will be kept updated.

USA – Strike suspended, ports resume operations – 4 October

The US ports on the East and Gulf Coasts, which had shut down operations on 1 October, have announced the end of the strike. Operations are now resuming. Read more below:

The Austrian rail network has experienced significant delays due to bad weather and flooding. Our team is seeking alternative solutions and will keep customers informed.

Germany – 30 September

Stricter border controls in Germany started on 16 September and will continue for the next six months. These controls may disrupt trade in the coming months. Customers affected will be updated.

South Africa – 30 September

Due to poor weather and severe congestion at Cape Town Port, vessel departures have been delayed, and bookings have been rolled by the shipping lines to try and recover the sailing schedule. The port has been reinstated to accommodate more vessels again after one berth was blocked earlier in the week. Congestion will now start to improve.                                         

USA – 30 September

There is a strong possibility that the potential strike in the US will affect shipments from the East and the Gulf Coasts from 1 October. However, as it stands, shipments from the West Coast look to be unaffected.

A nationwide rail strike for public transportation services in Italy has been announced, starting from Friday, 20 September, at 00:01 and lasting until Saturday, 21 September, at 00:01. This industrial action could lead to delays, restrictions and even some cancellations of scheduled trains. Our team will continue to monitor the situation.

South Africa – Port congestion in Cape Town expected to improve – 18 September

The vessel blocking one of the berths departed from Cape Town port today, 18 September. This development is expected to ease the congestion at the port, allowing more vessels to be accommodated again.

UK – Extension of derogation on requirement for organic border checks for EU/EEA/Switzerland – 18 September

Scheduled border checks for organic goods entering Great Britain from the EU, EEA and Switzerland, originally set for 1 February 2025, have been postponed. DEFRA confirmed the extension of the derogation for Certificates of Inspection (COIs) until 1 February 2027. Imports from these countries will continue under the current rules, while imports from other countries will still require COI checks. Other non-organic checks remain unaffected.

The border between Chile and Argentina is experiencing more closures and delays. More equipment/space is also needed outside San Antonio and Buenos Aires. Customers impacted will be advised.                         

Germany announces stricter border controls beginning 16 September – 13 September

Germany has announced stricter border controls, which may disrupt trade in the coming months. Temporary border checks will begin on 16 September and initially will last for six months. They will affect all land borders, including those with Austria, Belgium, Czechia, France, Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland. Our team is monitoring the situation.

Due to congestion at the port in Singapore, there are delays in orders. Any affected customers will be advised.

South Africa – 9 September

Poor weather and severe congestion at Cape Town Port are causing delays in vessel departures, and the shipping lines have rolled bookings to try to recover the sailing schedule.

The port has also been reduced to a 2-berth operation due to a vessel (belonging to another shipping line) losing containers in bad weather. This situation could take up to two weeks to rectify. All customers affected will be advised of any delays affecting them.

South Africa – Reduced operations out of Cape Town – 3 September

Operations at Cape Town have been reduced, adding to current delays. An emergency vessel occupying a berth at the Cape Town Container Terminal has affected operations, temporarily reducing the number of berths available. Our team is monitoring the situation and advise any affected customers.

Italy – 2 September

Ongoing infrastructure work is currently affecting the rail network and reducing the train schedule. Our team is monitoring the situation.            

Australia and New Zealand- 2 September

The port in Singapore is experiencing congestion, which is resulting in order delays. Our team will notify affected customers.              

South Africa – 2 September

August 2024 

Germany – Potential strikes at German North Sea ports – 27 August

Recent developments regarding the ongoing negotiations between the Central Association of German Seaport Operators (ZDS) and the German trade union representing employees at the German North Sea ports indicate a high likelihood of strikes. These potential industrial actions could disrupt operations. Our team closely monitors the situation.

UK – New EMCS set to come online from today – 19 August

The Excise Movement Control System (EMCS) has transitioned to a new platform, and the revised Live Implementation Date is set for today, 19 August 2024, starting from 10:00 GMT/11:00 CET. 

Italy – 19 August

A potential three-day truck driver strike begins today, 19 August. We are investigating the impact this may have on our customers and will notify anyone affected by this news.

Due to the summer period and rail disruptions, some hauliers predict a potential lack of equipment. With the added infrastructure works in Germany, train departures and transit times will be affected.

USA – ILA strike update – 12 August

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has provided a 60-day strike notice, indicating a potential industrial action starting on 1 October 2024. This strike “would shut down six out of the ten of the busiest ports in the U.S.“, according to Bloomberg. However, negotiations are ongoing, and industry stakeholders and carrier executives are optimistic about reaching an agreement before the contract deadline. Our team will continue monitoring the situation closely and will keep you updated on any further developments.

Spain – RAIL Madrid-Santander planned closure for August

A major infrastructure work on the rail network between Madrid and Santander, Spain, is expected between 1 August and 31 August. This will restrict line capacity for all rail operators. Our team has explored various alternative solutions to manage this disruption and maintain the smooth operation of your supply chain during this period.

UK – HMRC – EMCS is set to release a new update on 19 August 

The Excise Movement Control System (EMCS) will transition to a new platform in August 2024. The implementation will involve the existing UK EMCS being taken offline from 12:00 GMT/13:00 CET on Friday, 16 August 2024. Subsequently, the new UK EMCS will come online from 10:00 GMT/11:00 CET on Monday, 19 August 2024. As a result, the revised Live Implementation Date is set for Monday, 19 August 2024. During the downtime, any required Excise movements will be subject to the existing Fallback Procedures outlined in the guidance.

Europe – August infrastructure works impacting Rail Network in Italy – 18 July

Various major infrastructure works planned for August will significantly impact the Italian Rail Network.

  • Italy to Benelux Corridor: Multiple infrastructure works and maintenance activities are planned for the corridor connecting Italy and Benelux, impacting all intermodal operations.
  • Germany: The Rheintalstrecke (Rastatt), Mannheim-Basel, in Germany, will be temporarily closed, requiring trains to be rerouted via France.
  • Italy Rail terminals: Extensive maintenance works are planned for several rail terminals, including Segrate and Busto. Consequently, these terminals will be closed. Activities based in Segrate will temporarily shift to Melzo, causing trains to be rerouted. Cargo bound to or from Southern Italy, usually connected directly from Segrate, will need to be shunted to another terminal due to the lack of a direct connection.
  • The service will be active for all units from/ to Pomezia, Bari and Nola terminals but will transit via different rail hubs. Longer transit times and disruptions are to be expected.
  • Gotthard Base Tunnel: Repairs on the Gotthard Base Tunnel between Switzerland and Italy are scheduled to be completed in September.
