Alcohol duty rate changes as of the 1st of August

The new alcohol duty rates announced by the UK government in March of this year will come into effect on the 1st of August, 2023. These changes will apply to all alcoholic products manufactured or imported into the UK and impact alcohol manufacturers, importers and retailers.

Apart from the changes in general duty rates, the government has raised the value of Draught Relief. This relief now applies to qualifying beer and cider, increasing from 5% to 9.2%. Meanwhile, the relief for wine, other fermented products, and spirits has also increased from 20% to 23%.

The rates for alcohol duty have stayed the same since the Autumn Budget of 2020. Read more here: Alcohol Duty: rate changes – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
