Kukla Beverage Logistics Europe to UK Direct Importing Masterclass

We were delighted to team up with our friends at The Wine Merchant magazine last week to deliver the first online webinar dedicated to Direct Importing from Europe: A Masterclass.

Designed to help any UK wine merchant seeking to import directly from an EU source for the first time, the session was warmly received as educational and informative, seeking to explain some of the complexities of direct shipment but equally to shatter the myth that it’s impossible.

A link to a recording of the session, which was attended by 62 people, is attached. Download our direct import masterclass – The Wine Merchant Mag We hope you find it absorbing. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly if you have any questions at c.porter@kukla-spedition.com

We would like to express our grateful thanks to Graham Holter at Wine Merchant magazine for the opportunity to partner in what was a very well-received presentation.

EU-MRV and the evolving landscape of Maritime Emissions Regulation

Since its inception in 2018, the EU-MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) regulation has been at the forefront of monitoring carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from ships engaged in EU-related voyages. Applied to vessels above 5,000 gross tons arriving at or departing from ports under the jurisdiction of an EU member state, this regulation establishes stringent rules for developing Monitoring Plans and submitting Emission Reports to accredited verifiers. Farmer protests: governments must compensate damages

“Many farmer protests across Europe have seriously disrupted logistics chains, blocking key routes, attacking trucks and destroying cargo, often with the police as a passive witness. The cost for drivers and transport firms is huge and growing. They need compensation”, writes the International Road Transport Union. The average cost to the driver or operator of a blocked truck is approximately EUR 100 per hour. Costs can quickly spiral, impacting especially owner-drivers and small and medium transport firms. The wider economic costs have already run into many millions of euros. Read more here: https://www.iru.org/news-resources/newsroom/farmer-protests-governments-must-compensate-damages

Red Sea diversions having widespread impact on UK and EU businesses

New research by the British Chamber of Commerce released today uncovered the scale of the impact on UK businesses caused by the disruption to shipping in the Red Sea. While some economics organizations have said they expected the impact to level off, the private UK organization representing a broad range of businesses is warning of the widespread consequences, especially in sectors such as retailing. This follows a similar warning earlier in the month from EuroCommerce which represents the European retail and wholesale sector. EU launches Red Sea mission as US-owned bulker gets attacked twice

The EU has launched a naval mission to protect Red Sea shipping after the Houthis continued their attacks on commercial vessels on Monday, targeting a bulk carrier twice within hours.

Maritime security specialists Ambrey said the US-owned and Greek-flagged ship had first called for military assistance, citing a missile attack some 100 nautical miles east of Aden, Yemen, only to report a second incident about two hours later. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also confirmed the incident, with both sources adding that the vessel’s crew were safe and proceeding to the next port of call.
