Drewry’s GTO report reveals PSA remains at the top, while Chinese operators are on the rise

Merge & Acquisition (M&A)-led growth strategies will propel leading regional terminal operators and container shipping lines into the global terminal operator rankings next year, according to Drewry’s latest Global Container Terminal Operators Annual Review and Forecast report. While the position of the largest global terminal operators (GTOs) at the top of the rankings looks secure, the number of companies seeking to invest in the global ports market has increased in recent years. However, with global container port volumes increasing by just 0.5% in 2022, M&A has emerged as the quickest route to build market share. IRU, the world road transport employers’ organisation, representing more than 3.5 million road transport operators welcomes Euro 7 votes in key European Parliament committees. A pragmatic and realistic approach on the European Union’s proposed Euro 7 vehicle emissions standards has been embraced in decisions by members of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and Transport and Tourism (TRAN). Government launches review of DVLA

The government has launched an independent review of the DVLA as part of a wider programme looking into the effectiveness and efficiency of public bodies. Announcing the review, the government said DVLA will be assessed on efficiency, efficacy, accountability and governance – the four pillars set by Cabinet Office. RAIL FREIGHT

Industrial action to affect National Rail services

The RMT Union’s industrial strike action day is scheduled for Saturday 29 July. This is likely to result in little or no services across large areas of the network. Services are also likely to be disrupted and start later on the day immediately following a strike day. In addition, the ASLEF union, have announced action short of a strike affecting some train operators from Monday 31 July to Saturday 5 August and again from Monday 7 to Saturday 12 August.
