World Container Index: Detailed assessment
Drewry’s composite World Container Index decreased by 2% to $1,756.83 per 40ft container in the week of 23 Mar and dropped by 79% compared to the same week last year. The latest Drewry WCI composite index of $1,757 per 40-foot container is 83% below the peak of $10,377 reached in September 2021. EU Reaches Deal for FuelEU Maritime Rules of GHG Emissions
A political agreement was reached between the co-legislators of the European Parliament and the European Council, finalising the rules for FuelEU Maritime, the trading scheme to limit carbon emissions, in what is being called the world’s most ambitious path to maritime decarbonisation. CILT Reveals Potential to Electrify 95% of UK Freight Trains
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) has published a report revealing the significant potential to electrify UK rail freight operations. Its electrification strategy includes a detailed map and blueprint showcasing the opportunity to electrify 95% of rail freight operations in the UK by the mid-2040s. Germany: nationwide strike brings rail to a standstill
The warning nationwide railway strike in Germany taken by union EVG on Monday, 27 March, is expected to have a considerable impact on rail freight. Depending on the company, services were either fully or partially cancelled, while more delays are expected during the week.
