UK farmers protest rules they say threaten livelihoods

Farmers drove dozens of tractors in a slow-motion convoy towards Britain’s Parliament on Monday to protest post-Brexit rules and trade deals that they say are endangering livelihoods and food security. Supporters of the campaign groups Save British Farming and Fairness for Farmers of Kent rolled from southeast England and through southern districts of the capital, bound for Parliament Square, where dozens of supporters waited to welcome them. Worse than you thought: truck driver shortages and demographics

Without significant action, the shortage of truck drivers is projected to double by 2028. One key reason is a growing age gap in driver demographics. IRU’s latest driver shortage report, based on a survey of more than 4,700 trucking companies in the Americas, Asia, and Europe, found that the share of drivers under 25 continues to remain low at 12% or less. TIR steps in with road alternatives to Red Sea

Amid the ongoing Red Sea crisis, major logistics operators have opted for the TIR system to ensure that goods flow smoothly between East Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

In recent weeks, major transport companies have bypassed the Red Sea by opting for ground alternatives through the Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region rather than going around the southern tip of Africa. With these strategic shifts in transport corridors, operators have increased the value of their services with the efficiency and security offered by TIR. A containership outbound from the Port of Baltimore collided with one of the pillars of one of the city’s primary roadway bridges, causing the bridge to collapse overnight. Intermodal rail freight on high tide at port of Felixstowe

The Port of Felixstowe continues to celebrate significant growth in rail market share. The East Coast port has reinforced its position as the UK’s leading intermodal rail facility. It has just come off a record month for rail freight movements. The figures show that there is still an appetite for increasing the rail freight share of containers moved. Development at Felixstowe has been enough to move the whole national measure in maritime intermodal metrics.
