Faster trade across GCC borders? Yes, say transport companies
Can cross-border trade in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region be more than 90% faster? Yes, transport companies from the region shared their experiences using the TIR system at our recent webinar. The summer of e-CMR: Hungary is the latest country to go paperless
Following the accessions of Italy and Austria to e-CMR, Hungary became the latest country to go digital over the summer. e-CMR, the digital protocol to the United Nations CMR convention for international road goods transport, entered into force in Hungary last week, setting a legal foundation for fully paperless road freight. Hungary is the 38th country to join e-CMR. The switch from paper-based to fully digital consignment notes will boost the efficiency and safety of goods transport across Hungary and, ultimately, into neighbouring countries. https://www.iru.org/news-resources/newsroom/summer-e-cmr-hungary-latest-country-go-paperless

ITF launches the Non-Seafarers’ Work Clause
The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the Joint Negotiating Group (JNG) have introduced the Non-Seafarers’ Work Clause, to promote the safety of seafarers. This clause stipulates that tasks like lashing and unlashing cargo should be handled by trained and qualified dockworkers rather than seafarers. The primary objective is to alleviate the additional physical burden on seafarers, thereby reducing fatigue and preventing potential accidents on board. New box terminal in Duisburg opens new opportunities
As a new container terminal opened at the Duisburg port, Container News attempted to evaluate the strategic environment and the tactics of the German port. The data process noted a notable systemic simultaneous decline in shipping connectivity across Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. This could be related to broader economic downturns, shifts in global trade routes, or possibly regulatory changes affecting shipping operations. France selects six rail projects for financial support to boost modal shift
The French Agency for the Ecological Transition (ADEME) approved financial schemes to fund six rail projects aimed at boosting the modal shift. Once completed, these projects are expected to remove over 21,000 trucks from French roads, according to ADEME. The first rail project selected by ADEME concerns logistics company XPO and the creation of a conventional train service connecting Langres, Orange and Fos/Arles. The second project involves aggregate company Budillion Rabatel and rail services for asphalt material between Lyon and Grenoble. The third one interests Logilec, part of the E. Leclerc Group. Here, the main goal is to boost the modal shift from road to rail for the company along its most used routes: Lille-Marseille, Lille-Bordeaux, Lille-Toulouse and Dourges-Lyon.
